Since the ELV Act* came into force, customers have the option of returning their old vehicle to the manufacturer under the following circumstances:
*End-of-life Vehicles Directive – EU Directive 2000/53/EC regulates the dismantling and recycling of motor vehicles within the European Union. The aim of the directive is to reduce vehicle waste. This directive obliges EU member states to organise take-back systems for end-of-life vehicles. The directive was implemented in Germany on 1 July 2002, when the End-of-Life Vehicles Ordinance came into force.
A so-called certificate of destruction is required to deregister an end-of-life vehicle. This certificate of destruction confirms the proper disposal of the vehicle. This certificate of destruction may only be issued by certified dismantling companies, certified and authorised collection points or collection points designated by the manufacturer.
To make it easy for customers to dispose of their end-of-life vehicle, Daimler Truck AG maintains a nationwide network of collection points that take back the old vehicle free of charge. The contractually bound dismantling companies are certified by independent experts in accordance with the End-of-Life Vehicles Ordinance and fulfil all legal requirements. In addition, they are audited and monitored according to the quality criteria of Daimler Truck AG.
Customers who wish to return their FUSO end-of-life vehicle free of charge can contact the take-back network operator responsible for this, Callparts Recycling GmbH, on: 033233 70-911 (availability: Mon-Thu from 8:00 to 16:30 and Friday from 8:00 to 15:00).
First, the vehicle is dutifully drained by removing all operating fluids (e.g. oil, brake fluid) from the vehicle and recycling them. Then, reusable parts and recyclable materials are dismantled. These materials, such as glass, tyres and large plastic parts, are processed in separate recycling channels. The remaining bodywork is shredded, separated into the different fractions and these are then returned to the material cycle as far as possible.
Reusing more means disposing of less. Environmental protection is one of the key corporate goals of Daimler Truck AG. This means using natural resources sparingly. Already during the development of the vehicles, environmentally friendly and recycling-friendly design has a high priority. A good example of this is the use of unmixed materials for bumpers and underbody panelling. These allow easy dismantling and high-quality material recycling. In addition, renewable raw materials such as coconut fibres or sisal are used. The advantages are obvious: environmentally friendly and recyclable. In its environmental guidelines, Daimler Truck AG commits itself to continuously improving the environmental compatibility of its products. This benchmark is the daily orientation for further optimising the environmental balance of the vehicles.
